Mortgage Pre-licensing Course
 

Mortgage rates are at a historic low! There has never been a better time to begin a career as a Mortgage Loan Originator. Mortgage companies are searching for licensed originators ready to become successful in this evolving industry.

The State of Utah currently requires 40 hours of Utah General education for mortgage students, plus 20 hours of national SAFE classes before taking the Mortgage Originator Exams. The cost of the 60-hour Mortgage Pre-licensing Course is $495. We currently offer the Utah 40-hour portion of this course online for $295. Bundle and Save! Add the SAFE 20-hour portion for a total of $495. The SAFE 20-hour course alone is $349.

Tuition includes your textbook, custom written and designed for Utah students. SAFE course tuition also includes the national SAFE materials and SAFE Exam Prep.

Other costs that you may encounter include:

  • Utah State Exam fee of at least $69
  • National SAFE Exam fee of at least $92
  • License application fee of $187
  • Fingerprinting fees may vary

Currently we only offer the 40 hours of Utah General Education online. The 20 hour SAFE portion is currently offered through a third-party provider. Reservations are required as seats are very limited. However, online instruction for the SAFE course is available also. Contact our office for details.

A financial calculator is required in every class.  The following are suggested types of calculators:
Qualifier Plus IIIx; available at the front desk or online.
Hewlett Packard 10B or Hewlett Packard 12C; available at any office supply store.


 

Mortgage Course at a Glance

NMLS Safe and Utah Exams

Licensee candidates are required to pass a NMLS Safe Exam (Federal) and the Utah State Exam. Both exams are administered through the NMLS and can be registered for by clicking the link above.

The following test administration fees are in effect for the SAFE Act Mortgage Loan Originator Test:

  • National Component - $92
  • Utah State Component - $69

Criminal Background Check

New mortgage loan originator (MLO) license applicants will be required to request a Criminal Background Check in connection with the submission of a license request.
